Rita Vilhena

About

Rita Vilhena is a choreographer, performer and dance researcher who has been a professional dancer since 2003. She holds a Master's in Performing Arts and a PhD in Artistic Studies – Art and Mediations (FCSH), and is a researcher at ICNOVA-Performance Cognition. She is the founding artistic director of Partícula Extravagante and directs the experimental stage Partícula no Açúcar. Based in Lisbon, she has been active in Contact Improvisation since 2005, teaching at Escola Superior de Dança and internationally. She created the Lx Contact Festival and co-organizes the Portugal Contact Festival, and co-curates Contact Improvisation classes at Culturgest, working at the intersection of somatics, dance, and ritual/performance.
