Mariana de los Rios
About
Mariana de los Rios remembers herself spinning, jumping, and rolling since childhood, enjoying playing with her body in its various relationships between its parts, with space, and with gravity — she cannot imagine a life lived only with her head up and her feet on the ground. The whole body belongs to the earth, comes from the earth, and returns to the earth. When she immersed herself in Contact Improvisation, she understood that she too could be an earth, and that other bodies were an earth for her as well. She finds this dance a marvel for knowing oneself inwardly and in relation — bonding, adapting, taking risks, trusting, waiting, disappearing, flying, and falling. Her presence in dance (dancing, teaching, researching) finds support in Feldenkrais, in practices exploring the nature of force in the body and in dance, and in the simple observation of clouds, cats, and stacked stones.
