Carey Jeffries (born London, 1966) is a visual artist and dancer based in Paris. He trained in Fine Art (sculpture) at Camberwell and Canterbury Colleges of Art (1983-88), then assisted sculptors including Antony Caro, Jeff Lowe, and Andy Goldsworthy (1988-89). From 1990-2012 he studied Butoh, Contact Improvisation, contemporary dance, yoga, and massage, and has practiced Contact Improvisation and Instant Composition since 2000, studying with Yann Lheureaux among others, and the Underscore with Nancy Stark Smith and Claire Filmon. He has created over 20 solos since 1990, produced several group choreographies, and founded the Deep Contact Group (Butoh, somatic practices, and Contact Improvisation) in 2012. He also teaches yoga and has organized retreats for over 15 years.
