About this event
The program of Art of Improvisation residency provides extended intensives with diverse teachers, who will share their different and unique approaches towards the art of Contact Improvisation and movement improvisation practices. The expertise of artists with background in Contact Improvisation, contemporary dance, somatic practices, and more provides a multitude of ways to enter the practice of improvisation. The Residency provides a solid structure of focused practice and open space for integration and individual process through laboratories, open space studio, and community jams. **Part 1 — Propelling Forward: Foundation of Contact Improvisation (Nov 1–6)** Dedicated to people who would like to visit the foundations of CI. Working with communication through touch, awareness of boundaries and consent, moving off-balance, shared weight, spirals, inversions, sliding, rolling, falling, and flying. Teachers: Ayelet Yekutiel, Lalit Ghanshyal, Kirti Verma, Pandurang Sagbhor **Part 2 — De-centering and Re-Centering: Advanced skills of CI (Nov 12–28)** Daring, grounded-kinetic, momentum-driven explorations. Building on solo material and expanding into duet/trio practice of negotiating the dance in-between falling, supporting, and flying. Teachers: Karen Nelson, Purnendra Kumar Meshram, Somya Kautia, Prashant More **Part 3 — Dance of Listening: Somatic approach (Dec 3–19)** Grounded in somatic principles understanding soma as an integrated body.
