About the community

Join us every Thursday at Berkeley’s historic Finnish Hall for the biggest contact improvisation jam in the Bay Area. Since 2008, we’ve been a vibrant, community-run space, where newcomers and experienced practitioners explore this movement form. A different teacher offers class each week from 7–8p. The jam follows from 8–11p, featuring a dynamic soundscape that blends silence, improvised live music, and occasionally DJ’ed tracks. In the upstairs space from 8–10p, there’s often additional CI programming (labs, scores, classes, screenings, etc). Thursday Jam is run by community, for community. In the spirit of generosity, everything is offered by donation, with no pre-registration required.
