About this event
FOCUS CI Valencia is Ramon Roig's annual Contact Improvisation training process, running for a third edition across the 2026/2027 season. Nine weekend modules, one a month from October to June, each offering 10 hours of technical training plus a 3 hour jam, for 90 hours of technique and 27 hours of open practice in total. The ground is contemporary dance technique, somatic practice and anatomical knowledge, distilled from the CI lineage Roig trained in with Daniel Lepkoff, Ray Chung, Martin Keogh, Nita Little, Frey Faust and Andrew Harwood, and shaped into what he calls Diálogo Físico. Each module takes a theme: the earth, dialogue, joints, spirals, momentum, the depths of touch, liquids, distances, and labbing in trios. It is aimed at facilitators, dancers, performers, acrobats and anyone wanting to expand their own physical language, whatever their previous experience. The main base is the 200 m2 hall of the Polideportivo Doctor Lluch in the Cabanyal. The open class and the monthly Sunday afternoon jam take place at Espai de Circ in Alboraya. Saturdays run 11:00 to 14:00 and 16:00 to 19:00, Sundays 11:00 to 14:00 plus a 16:00 pre-jam class. Places are limited.

Module 1: The Earth
Oct 24 - Oct 25, 2026The earth as the common point with all beings, and the anchor that keeps us stable in time. Physical meditation, empathy and connection with the ground, the evolution of human movement, Small Dance, the anatomy of walking, floor work and transitions between levels.
Module 2: Dialogue
Nov 28 - Nov 29, 2026The natural roles of CI, and how bodies communicate through the mechanical forces of movement. Working from weight, mass, gravity, inertia and impulse to study how these generate a dynamic exchange of pressure and support, where each action provokes a proportional response that structures the dance.
