Dancing with Lightness in Contact Improvisation

A 5-day Contact Improvisation workshop with Alicia Grayson at Rhizome Springs — an off-grid 40-acre property on Salt Spring Island, BC. Runs immediately before the 10-day Salt Spring CI Festival (Jul 24–Aug 2). Focus: Clarity, Connection, and Choice in CI — helping dancers access a much larger range of movement and partnership through: • Layers of touch communication (skin, fascia, periosteum, bone) • Awakening whole-body intelligence and responsiveness • Precision in skeletal alignment with earth and space • Taking and offering weight in 3D space • Modulating weight for athletic, dynamic, and sustainable dancing Classes take place in a 50-foot diameter open dome with views across the land. Morning and afternoon sessions with Alicia (10am–1pm + 3–5:30pm); evening CI jams facilitated by Selena La Brooy (8–10pm). Includes: camping, 3 meals/day, classes, and evening jams. Participants may continue for the SSI CI Summer Festival at additional cost. Price: CA$750–900 sliding scale (camping + meals + classes + jams).
