About
Viktor Schramek is a drummer, percussionist, improviser, session and recording player, and music educator from Slovakia, currently based in Taiwan. His creative aim is to push the boundaries of listeners and himself, focusing on the present moment with seriousness and a child-like playful quality โ improvisation is the ideal setting for this to unfold. Besides drums and percussion, which he has played since early childhood, he likes to use everyday objects such as kitchenware and natural objects to discover new soundscapes. After studying classical music at the State Conservatory in Bratislava, he studied jazz performance under Professor Martin Sulc at VOS of Jaroslav Jezek in Prague, starting to play professionally at age 16 and touring most European countries plus many others across four continents before age 25. Since 2016 he has lived in Taiwan, where he is active in the artistic community, collaborating with award-winning artists, music bands, and dance crews including Ilid Kaolo, Balai, Panai Kusui, Binlang Brothers, Cantando Trio, Ku Ming-Shen, and Bulareyaung Dance Company. Between 2022 and 2024 he was repeatedly invited to the International Contact Dance Improvisation Conferences in Thailand (Towards), deepening his understanding of and collaboration with the Contact Improvisation dance community. He is currently involved in dance-music collaborations in Taiwan and internationally.
