Kim Giyoung trained from childhood in Korean traditional Yeonhee, where dance, singing, and instrumental playing occur simultaneously within a single body, developing an embodied sense of how sound and movement connect within body and space. After completing university studies in traditional Yeonhee, she founded Yeonhee Collective Gaeng, creating work grounded in questions about how traditional arts are practiced within Korean society and the intrinsic power of sound and movement. In 2018 she began practicing in earnest in Contact Improvisation, which gradually expanded into somatic and improvisation practice — an ongoing process of noticing what already exists within and around us. Co-founder of Studio Binjari, Busan, where she co-curates, organizes, and facilitates Contact Improvisation and improvisation-based projects together with her partner Ganesh Katara.
