Hamzah Mas
About
Hamzah Mas first discovered Contact Improvisation in 2018 following a series of fortunate events in Newcastle on Awabakal Land, and has been completely in love with the form ever since. CI has become the heart of his movement practice โ a place where curiosity, listening, and play feel endlessly alive. In 2025 he embarked on a six-month CI pilgrimage, travelling from Australia to North America, Europe, and Bali, and was deeply inspired by how CI connects people across cultures in a beautifully liminal space of dance that goes beyond borders and words. A multidisciplinary artist with a deep love for the improvisational arts, Hamzah enjoys bringing people together and helping creative spaces grow where connection, experimentation, and care can flourish. He bumped into Valentina Gombi at a jam in Mullumbimby and together they went on to co-found the Australian Contact Festival. He is currently based in Bellingen, where he teaches and serves the local CI community in collaboration with Catriona Davies. He is also an avid clinician who advocates for mental health and holistic wellbeing.
