Genki Matsuyama

Genki Matsuyama has been exploring the limits of movement and dance for more than twenty years. A Contact Improvisation dancer with a background in contemporary and street dance from Japan, now based in Melbourne, he first discovered dance in the streets of Japan in 2006. While living and training in Berlin, France, and Switzerland, he was introduced to Contact Improvisation. Since then he has deepened his practice in Byron Bay, Sydney, and Melbourne, with studies in Gaga, the Alexander Technique, and freestyle House dance. His work explores how the principles of Contact Improvisation shape the way we move and relate — to ourselves, to others, and to the space around us.
