Materiality, Imagination and Action — Charlie Morrissey CI Workshop

About this event

Born from a fascination with how the senses, structure, and materiality of the body intertwine with thought and imagination. The workshop starts from Steve Paxton's Material for the Spine and Lisa Nelson's perceptual explorations (Tuning Scores) as fertile ground, using them to deepen how we know, and don't know, through the body, establishing a physical dialogue with others in Contact Improvisation. Dance is treated as a process of evolving bodies with the curiosity to surrender to both the familiar and the uncertain, inhabiting the questions that arise during exploration. Sessions combine the concrete, physical part of the body with the mystery of moving, thinking, and dreaming at the same time, alternating practical information and anatomical maps with scores that open space for expanded experience, questioning, play, and dance. Schedule: Sat Oct 31, 11:00-14:00 and 15:00-18:00 classes; Sun Nov 1, 11:00-14:00 and 15:00-17:00 classes, 17:00-19:00 jam; Mon Nov 2, 11:00-14:00 class, 14:00-15:00 jam. Limited to 35 participants. A 70 EUR deposit is required to confirm registration, refundable before Oct 1, non-refundable after (transferable to another person).
