Alito Alessi
About
Alito Alessi is the Artistic Director of DanceAbility International and co-founder of DanceAbility and Joint Forces Dance Company. Internationally known as a pioneering teacher and choreographer at the intersection of Contact Improvisation, dance and disability, he began exploring mixed-abilities dance with Karen Nelson in 1987, coining the term DanceAbility. His honors include a Fulbright Senior Specialist appointment (2007), the Hong Kong Choreographer of the Year Award (2006), a Guggenheim Fellowship (2005), and Choreographer's Fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Oregon Arts Commission. DanceAbility programs, grown from his certification training, now run in over 45 countries.
